A little about the Artist:
My name is Toun and I’m the owner of Hautefaces Makeup Artistry. I’ve always had a love affair for makeup, I love the idea of being able to transform my face to match my mood or just enhancing certain qualities I had. As time went by my friend’s started approaching me for help when they went to big events, before I knew it people I didn’t know started doing the same. There’s a certain kind of joy that comes from helping someone look and thereby feel their best that’s indescribable. That is my company’s goal, to help you look the best you want to look, to give you that special twinkle in your eye. Makeup is not a necessity, it’s a fun accessory, please do not let it make you.

Questions And Answers:
Ques: Whats your favorite brand of Foundation? Mascara?
Ans: Makeup forever is my favorite foundation brand, with Bobbi Brown coming in at a close second.
For mascara I love Loreal Voluminous, I already have length, it gives me the volume i need. But for everyone I prefer to use Covergirl Lashblast and Diorshow.
Ques: Whats a great summer look?
Ans: I live in TX, it gets ridiculously hot here in the summer. For a summer look I like to go with mineral powder, light, gold or neutral eyes with a bright lip and glowy cheeks.
Ques: Are there any drugstore brand that you will recommend that is comparable to the higer priced brands?
Ans: Actually I prefer drugstore mascara to high end mascara I feel they do the same thing. Covergirl, Rimmel and Loreal are my favorite drug store mascara brands.
Foundation I think Revlon Colorstay is pretty comparable to Mac Studio Fix Foundation. Also, I really like Black Opal’s Foundation Stick and Iman’s Foundation Stick.
I’m also a big fan of Maybelline’s Dream Mousse Blush, to me it’s as good as any high end cream blush. NYX’s powder blushes are also very good. Physician’s Formula’s Shimmer Strips are great comparable to Bobbi Brown’s Shimmerbricks. Lipglosses, I’d go with Sally Hansen’s, NYX, and Milani.
For lipsticks, my current favorites are the Revlon Matte’s and NYX round lipsticks
For eyeshadows, I’d recommend NYX and Milani, they are great quality and most of them have great color payoff.
Ques: What are your tricks for “smokey eyes”?
Ans: For smokey eyes, I think one of the things that can really make or break the look is having a good base,
if your base is not very good then most likely it’s not going to come out the way you want it to.
Also, applying a little at a time is the best bet, especially since you’re working with dark colors.
It’s easy to add more color if you do not have enough, it’s a lot harder to take away color when you’ve added too much. I also tell people that if you’re not comfortable doing the black/grey smokey eye look quite yet, start out with brown, and once you get comfortable with that then you can graduate to black. Finally, remember to blend your eyeshadows very well and to line your eyes with a dark liner, without this the look isn’t complete.
Ques: What foundation do you prefer and why? is liqiud better?
Ans: My holy grail foundation is Makeup Forever’s HD Foundation, it does exactly what I need a foundation to do.
It looks very natural, and makes my skin look even without looking like i have anything on and the coverage is buildable. I do not necessarily think liquid is better, it just depends on what the person is looking for. I think liquid is easier to apply than creams, and easier to maintain. With cream foundations, if you do not know what you’re doing it’s a lot easier to go heavier on it than you intend and for most it’s harder to blend than liquids.
Also liquids are more readily available.
Ques: How should one use concealer?
Ans: If you’re applying concealer to under your eyes, apply it before your foundation.
Use a brush or your ring finger then gently tap it into the area until it’s all blended in.
If you’re applying concealer to blemishes or other areas of your face, apply it after your foundation, using a brush. I like to use a blending brush, like the ones you use for eyeshadow, I find it works best for me but a small foundation would work too. Like with the under eye area, gently pat the concealer into the desired area until it blends in with your foundation, do not do the swiping motion, it will just move the concealer around, defeating the whole purpose.
Ques: What order do you apply your face and eye makeup?
Do you conceal and foundation before you apply eye makeup?
Ans: If i am doing a light look, I do my face makeup first. First applying moisturizer, then primer (if I’m going to wear foundation), then foundation, then set it with powder, if I do not apply foundation then I’ll skip the primer and the foundation step and go straight to powder. Then I do my eyes, blush and highlight, then lips.
If I am doing a smokey look, I do my eyes first before doing my foundation because a lot of time you’ll get eyeshadow fall out onto your foundation which will darken that area, you do not want that. If I do my eyes first, I can easily clean off the fall out then apply foundation/powder on top.
Ques: What is the order of your application of eye makeup (primer, brows, lashes, liner, etc?)
Ans: I always start out with eyebrows, eye primer, eye base, eyeshadow, liner, then mascara. If I apply lashes then I do it after the liner but before mascara
Ques: How do you correct your application when the outcome isn’t exactly what you were going for?
Ans: If the foundation isn’t quite right, I find using pressed or loose powder applied over it often helps correct
the problem. If there’s something wrong with the eye makeup, blending usually helps.
But ultimately if I’m really not satisfied with the way a look came out I’d rather just wipe it all off and start over. This is one of the advantages of makeup, it is not permanent and if you really don’t like what you did, it’s as simple as wiping it off and starting over.
Ques: Since the summer is coming.. what do you recommend for a daytime look in the heat!
Ans: For the summer i highly recommend a tinted moisturizer and some kind of loose foundation powder, my preference is mineral, light eyes and very glossy lips.
Ques: How do you feel about makeup brushes? are they necessary?
Ans: Any artists will tell you that tools are the most important, for me that includes brushes. I know some people don’t really care for them but for me they are a necessity. They really change and improve the application, Contrary to popular believe, you do not have to spend an arm and a leg for good makeup brushes if you are not a professional;there are very good quality brushes for a pocket friendly prices. For example, essence of beauty brushes at cvs, ecotools brushes at walgreen’s and sonia kashuk brushes at target.
